Support to Researchers
Attracting top researchers from all over the world and creating internationally competitive teams as well as talented students with high expectations,
is a key strategic objective for the University of Crete. To this end, the University, with the active participation and support of the Special Account for Research Funds,
has since 2012 adopted “The European Charter for Researchers and The Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers”, under a process called “HR Excellence in Research Award”,
which entails taking specific measures, in the form of Action Plans, to support researchers and improve their employment conditions and career prospects.

In the same context, the University of Crete has established the Researcher Awards, as following: Young Researcher Award, Research Award, Award for Excellence in
Doctoral Thesis and Social Contribution Award, which are awarded annually to researchers and faculty members of the University of Crete, following a special Call for Proposals.

The Special Account for Research Funds, using its own financial resources, acts as a supporting mechanism for those researchers working in the University of Crete. In particular, the S.A.R.F., through four specific programs finances activities for developing and supporting research, the relevant infrastructures and the human resources of the University of Crete as well.
- Category Α - "Presentation of Research Results"
- Category B - "PhD Scholarships"
- Category C1 - "Basic and Applied Research in Social Sciences and Humanities & Arts"
- Category C2 - "Interdisciplinary Projects"
- Category D - "New Faculty Member Research Grant"
Apart from that, the Special Account for Research Funds, hires researchers for specific projects, following Calls for Expression of Interest, which are announced in S.A.R.F. website as well as in EURAXESS.
Finally, the Special Account for Research Funds offers scholarships to PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers, following Calls for Proposals or Calls for Fellowship Applications.
